Classes Held in Corridor at Saptapalli School Due to Lack of Staircase

Due to the absence of a staircase connecting the newly constructed two-storey building, students of Taltola Saptapalli Secondary School in Baliakandi upazila of Rajbari district are being forced to attend classes in the corridor and, at times, on the school field. Although a government-funded two-storey building was constructed in the 2021–2022 fiscal year, only the ground floor is being used for teaching. The first floor remains inaccessible because no staircase was built. Local residents said that since its establishment in 1999, Taltola Saptapalli Secondary School under Baliakandi Sadar Union has been operating with a good reputation. “It is very painful to see our children studying in the corridor and on the field just because there is no staircase,” they said. The locals urged the authorities to take immediate steps to construct a staircase so that the first floor of the building can be used for academic activities.

According to school sources, the institution currently has 235 students — 128 boys and 107 girls.

Head teacher Krishna Bandhu Roy stated that the lack of a staircase has created a severe classroom shortage, as the entire first floor remains unused. “As a result, we are compelled to conduct classes in the corridor and sometimes on the field,” he said.

He also mentioned that an application has recently been submitted to the Chief Executive Officer of the Rajbari District Council, requesting the construction of a staircase along with other necessary works.
